Once you have invested in your perfect cue, you will need a case to protect it. Three basic types of cue cases are available: hard box, soft, and tube. You want to select the type that is most easily
transported plus keeps your cue the safest.

Hard cue cases are the most traditional. They are typically box-shaped with hinges on one side. They are most commonly constructed of leather, vinyl, or plastic. Divisions inside the case hold the butt and shaft separately. Some have a section for tips, chalk, and other accessories. The price varies based on the size and the material the case is made of. They provide great cue protection, but they are not the easiest or most comfortable to transport.

Soft cue cases of nylon, vinyl, or leather provide the least amount of protection. If this type of case is bent or crushed, the cues inside will be damaged. These mostly serve to prevent scratches during transportation. Long term storage in a soft case is not recommended.

Tube-type cue cases are most commonly used among players. They consist of a cylinder or oval of hard material covered with padding. They offer excellent cue safety, and are a comfortable means of transport or storage.

The interior of the pool cue cases are made up of a foam base covered by soft leather. Several handy pockets are found on the exterior of the case. Cues can be safely placed inside either joint up or joint down.
