Corr Cruises to Final Four
Turning Stone Classic XX / Verona, NY
Recent BCA Hall of Fame inductee Karen Corr is on a mission at the $25,000-added Turning Stone Classic XX and will return to Sunday’s matches as one of the final four undefeated players out of a field of 128.
Corr’s day began with a victory over Ivaylo Petrov, who she sent to the one-loss side 9-6. She then went on to deal Jonathan Demet his first loss of the event 9-5. Corr’s next opponent will be Johnny Archer, who survived a close match against fellow Mosconi Cup teammate Dennis Hatch to win it 9-7 and then defeated Ron Casanzio 9-5.
Shane Van Boening had a tough couple of matches Saturday. He started off facing Mosconi Cup teammate Mike Dechaine and ended up sending the defending champion to the west side 9-7. In the next round he was down 8-7 to England’s Jayson Shaw before he pulled off the double-hill win.
Warren Kiamco will be Van Boening’s first opponent Sunday. Kiamco eked out a hill-hill win over Hunter Lombardo and then went on to notch a 9-6 win over former world 9-ball champion Thorsten Hohmann.
After his 9-7 loss to Van Boening, Dechaine blazed a trail on the west side to return Sunday. He eliminated Los Angeles players Corey Harper 9-2 and Oscar Dominguez 9-5 before ousting Shaun Wilkie 9-4.
