Ronnie O'Sullivan claimed a sensational fifth World Snooker Championship title last May and today at the Paul Hunter Classic in Furth, Germany, he got his first trophy of the season, beating Gerard Greene 4-0 in the final. Check out all the results from the event here.
The tournament which was set up in honour of departed young star Paul Hunter, was well attended throughout the four days and the crowds were treated to some exciting snooker by the Rocket. This including a missed 147 attempt in his first round 4-0 victory over Ahmed Saif, and a gripping 4-2 win over defending champion Mark Selby.
In the final he set up a surprising clash against resurgent Northern Irish pro Gerard Greene, featuring in a final which carries ranking points for the first time in the 39-year-old's snooker career.
Unfortunately the former World Games gold medallist couldn't repeat the heroics of his 4-3 semi-final win over Ali Carter and could only muster 47 points in the best-of-7 clash as O'Sullivan surged ahead, making breaks of 92, 69 & 61 to go 3-0 up, follow by a marvellous 110 in the last frame to take home the trophy and the €25,000 first prize.
Although he only produced one century throughout the tournament, O'Sullivan did what was needed to win the tighter frames and always looked interested and determined to win every point, which used to be a rarity for the Rocket at the turn of the decade.
Next up for some of the players is the 6 Reds World Championship in Bangkok. It doesn't feature O'Sullivan, but many other top players including defending champion Mark Davis, Neil Robertson and Judd Trump are set to appear. Check out the draw for the group stages here.
