Mark Selby got his 2013 off to the best possible start by winning the opening tournament of the year, the Arcaden Munich Open, by beating Graeme Dott 4-3 in the final.

Mark Selby - Munich Open Champion

He faced 2006 world champion Dott in the final, who since today had been struggling for consistancy all season, but looked impressive in his 4-0 victory over PTC stalwart Rod Lawler in the semi-finals.

Selby got off to a good start, winning two out of the first three frames before Dott who hasn't won a professional title since the 2007 China Open, responded brilliantly with a 106 break to level the match to the delight of the packed audience in the Munich Event Forum.

Dott won a scrappy fifth frame but missed a crucial cut-back brown in the sixth leaving Selby to take it to a decider. The Scot made the first mistake and hit a safety shot far too thin, letting the two-times Masters champion in to make a classy break of 90 to seal victory.

Graeme Dott - Runner Up

This will no doubt boost the confidence of both players going in to the Masters in a fortnight, especially for Dott who has struggled to win more than a couple of matches on the spin in recent months.

All credit to Selby for competing in the event and giving it his all even though he was already top of the PTC Order of Merit. He along with Dott, Trump, John Higgins, Neil Robertson and many others will ensure of a quality tournament when it comes to the final in Galway in a few months time.
